Course Reflective Narrative:
This class represented one of the goals I wanted to get to from the very start. I knew that once I enroll in WLC 400 that meant I was just one step away from graduating and obtaining my B.A. in Japanese Language and Culture. I began the semester with a lot of enthusiasm but as time passed my strength and that eagerness I started with began to falter. I thought for a moment I was not going to make it, and that my graduation was slowly getting away. During the classes most of the speakers emphasize on the rewards of working hard and being consistent. They motivated us every class so we kept on moving forward. Dr. Saito-Abbott, Dr. Donaldo Urioste, Dr. Rafael Gomez, Gus Leonard and all those who came to visit were really good at convincing us that we were going to make it. It took longer for me to do so, I worked on things such as my e-portfolio for a while, then I stopped, I was lucky I had worked on my LESCANT photo project while in Japan so I did not have to do it here and increase my workload.
Every week I was wondering if I should stop, if I should just wait a little longer, but I thought that I have already waited long enough, I am older than most people in class after all. The words of Dr. Saito-Abbott were always helpful, she gave me feedback and push me so I would not give up, I felt like she was challenging me every time we spoke, and I liked that. I like challenges after all. Not only their words got stuck into my head; they also provided us with some very useful tools like how to create a more effective power point, or how to use excel. Gus Leonard was especially helpful when one of us required advice on how to use technology tools, Microsoft software of Google docs, he is after all computer savvy.
Now I am one step closer to make one of my lifetime dreams come true, graduating from a university, in a foreign country, using a different language, but I did not get here on my own, my professors and counselors, family and friends never gave up on me, that is what I learned this semester and that is mainly what this capstone class left on me, a positive imprint.
