Course Reflective Narrative:
WLC 300 fulfilled part of my General Education as a requisite in order to graduate. The class included several elements that were key in organizing this portfolio since we were introduced in the use of this website creator (weebly) and guided through the process of creating our portfolio in a professional manner. Our professors recommended that we took this course as soon as we start classes at the WLC department. Nevertheless, I took it after returning from my study abroad experience and yet I thought it provided us with some tools that we will continue using for as long as we stay in a professional setting.
Although I have had a previous experience years ago working with a software called Dreamweaver, intended to create websites, this experience was completely different; this is a site that I would like to continue editing while sharing more of the things I might learn along the way.
Furthermore, this class also gave us the opportunity to explore more options within our own fields. Speakers came to class to offer us alternatives in our career paths; their presentations showed many of us that learning a language can help us enter many areas such as hospitality, translation and interpretation, teaching a second language at school, government jobs and many others in which we can become successful. Our professors also introduced many helpful resources for those who were planning on studying abroad in the future. They spoke of financial aid and scholarships that would make it easier for some classmates to travel and pay for their expenses overseas. Some of us were able to share our experiences in other countries, as well as provide some guidance to those interested in applying for scholarships such as Gilman and others. While people can make all those things on their own, I consider it is always good to have somebody willing to guide us and making the process easier for all of us; that is what our professors did in this course.
