Major Learning Outcomes:
There are several learning outcomes that all students in the Japanese department should achieve if they want to be able to graduate. These are several areas in which each of us has to demonstrate proficiency through our work, especially the Capstone Project.
MLO 1: Language and Communication
Each student has to show proficiency in different areas of their secondary language, Japanese in this case. The areas to cover are interpersonal, interpretive and presentational. Students also have to prove themselves capable of properly handle situations in social and professional settings.
MLO 2: Culture
Students enroll in the Japanese program have to demonstrate an understanding, appreciation and knowledge of the Japanese culture. This includes perspectives, practices and products; which means that each individual has to develop understanding, appreciation and knowledge of their ideas, beliefs, social behavior, and forms of art among other aspects.
MLO 3: Secondary Culture
Through the study of a secondary culture, students analyze, compare and contrast their culture with the Japanese culture. Students are to develop a deeper understanding of their own culture through such actions.
MLO 4: Research and Technology
Students learn about new technologies that help them conduct researches related to their field of study, Japanese. Collecting, analyzing and managing data will lead them to creating more professional and scholarly works.
MLO 5: Cultural Internalization and Language Immersion
Students demonstrate that they have immersed themselves in different aspects of the Japanese culture, including cultural and linguistic. Students also demonstrate that they have developed a deeper comprehension on the Japanese culture and its language; which will be implemented into their lives in the social and community settings.
