Course Reflective Narrative:
Another class that I took during my last semester at CSU Monterey Bay was precisely Advanced Japanese for Presentational Communication. Its name clearly indicates what it is all about, presentations. Its intended purpose is to get us ready for the most important moment in the life of many of us, first our final assessment and then the final Capstone presentation. Many of us do not feel comfortable talking in front of other people so this class is designed to help us gain confidence, but it also help us create a more organized power point, use resources to search more information useful for our project and a better way to deliver our “speech” if you will. I have noticed that I lost a lot of confidence lately, I was proud of my presentations while in Junior College, but presenting in Japanese is something completely different. I am barely getting used to it.
I believe the class was really helpful for most of us, the professor allowed us to present in English to increase our self-esteem and confidence, however eventually we were encouraged to present completely in Japanese as it should. It was not easy but the results are that we are almost to the point of graduation. This would not have been possible without the support of Dr. Sekine, in my case, since she gave me lots of necessary feedback, I even changed my topic due to her feedback which was for the best, no doubt about it. My capstone could have been boring and make no sense to many people, but now I believe I have a good topic and a lot of interesting information to back it up. Through this course we fulfill the MLO 4, research methods and information technology, requirements.
