Course Reflective Narrative:
Our Pre-Capstone course was a very useful class and a very good addition to the Japanese Major curriculum. It allowed us to start working on the most important project of our career so far, the capstone project; which is the equivalent of a thesis required by other educational institutions. Through different activities and in-class participation, we began thinking on a topic in which we wanted to conduct our research. Nevertheless, our professors advised us to think about this even before going on our study abroad experience.
While in Japan, I thought about my capstone project and found a topic I wanted to develop and study to a deeper degree. We were taught how to do a literature review properly and also how to use different resources, especially those from our library and external databases. The knowledge we acquired during that semester was one that helped us fulfill our MLO 4, since we learned about different resources, both online and offline, as well as their application.
Besides, we were constantly listening and speaking in Japanese, which truly helped us further develop our skills and understanding of the language. I’d like to continue using all of these skills to increase my chances of obtaining a better job in the future; one in which I can apply the knowledge transmitted by our professors. There are many places where all of them would be welcomed and I have been thinking about attending graduate school where I can certainly implement them in the pursuit of a better future for my children.
